This tour will treat you to Rwanda’s priceless gorilla adventures, golden monkey tracking, city tour, Nyamirambo women’s group and Ibyi Iwacu, an initiative supporting former poachers.
DAY 1: ARRIVE KIGALI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND PICK UP
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, our driver guide will take you to your hotel, where you will relax as you recover from the jetlag.
DAY 2: FULL DAY KIGALI CITY
After breakfast, embark on the Kigali city tour. Among the historical sites you will visit are monumental buildings where the 1994 Genocide was executed. Such include Nyamata Genocide Church, Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, Kimironko Market, Inema Arts Centre, Presidential Museum, Camp Kigali Memorial, Natural History Museum-Kigali, and Campaign Against Genocide Museum (CAG), where you will be able to immerse yourself in Rwandan history.
DAY 3: NYAMIRAMBO WOMEN’S CENTRE TOUR
After breakfast, your tour guides will take you to the Nyamirambo women’s centre for a taste of local life. It is a community initiative formed by local women with the support of women from other countries. Its mission is to provide over 100 beneficiaries employment opportunities so as to enable them afford their families basics of survival, such as medical care, clothing and food. This is achieved through providing them with trainings in Small and medium enterprises and fields such as tailoring.
During this tour, you will be treated to intriguing insights into the culture, history, and daily life of locals in Kigali city.
In the second phase of the adventure, you will proceed to Aziz life experience. You may join in on gardening, local beer brewing, traditional cooking and many more.
DAY 4: TRANSFER TO MUSANZE, IBYI IWACU AND GASTURA VILLAGE
After breakfast, you will drive to Musanze, making a stopover at Gasakura Village and later the Ibyi Iwacu cultural village. It is a replica of a typical village in Rwanda, created by former poachers of wildlife. The initiative helps them generate a sustainable livelihood as opposed to depending on poaching.
Ibyi Iwacu showcases the traditional way of life; marriage customs, and how weapons are made using iron smith techniques. Here, you can also shop authentic handmade crafts that you purchase as souvenirs. These welcoming locals will also treat you to energetic dances of Rwanda’s indigenous tribes, like Hutu and Tutsi.
DAY 5: GOLDEN MONKEY TREKKING AT VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK
During this half-day tour at the foot of Mt Sabyinyo, the guide will shepherd you around to get random sightings of nature’s best-kept secrets. The habituated Golden monkey family you will visit comprises of roughly 90 monkeys.
He will keep pointing for you where to step so as to jump over queues of ants. Wildlife movements can’t be predicted; this keeps you guessing and enriching you, unlike a zoo experience where everything seems stage managed.
The walk through the forest is stunning, along small trails that snake along pristine rivers. It is not very challenging, and you don’t have to be in great shape to complete it. The wooden boardwalks built over the rivers make it easy to get through the jungle without going through hell.
Later in the day, our driver guide will drop you off at Kigali International Airport in time for your flight.
